My path to web design wasn’t traditional—but that’s exactly why it works. After serving in the Army and spending 12 years in law enforcement with the Los Angeles County and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Offices, I discovered something unexpected: I loved solving problems with code as much as I did in uniform. Working long shifts at the county jail, I’d come home and teach myself HTML in my free time. What started as curiosity became a calling.
In the mid-90s, when most small businesses had never heard of a “web presence,” I launched HomeZone.com—my first company helping local business owners get online. In 1999, my work caught the attention of a retail corporation launching a new website business in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and we quickly moved our family of four from California to the Midwest. In 2007, I launched The Affordable Web Guy in Denver, Colorado, and I’ve never looked back. Since then, I’ve built hundreds of custom WordPress websites for small and medium businesses throughout Denver and across Colorado, helping them put their best foot forward online.
